ChpMap — Privacy Policy

This is the current policy for every version of ChpMap. Where a practice arrived in a particular release, the clause is marked — for example New in 9.0 — so you can tell what applies to the version you are running. If your app is older than the version on a marked clause, that clause does not apply to you. Everything unmarked applies to all versions.

This Privacy Policy explains the privacy practices for the ChpMap mobile application by ITSNode LLC.

1. Information We Collect

ChpMap does not ask for, collect, or store personal information. There is no account to create, and we never collect your name, email address, or phone number.

The app shows your position on the map, and that stays on your device — we do not track or store where you go. The one exception is the optional Community feature, where a report you choose to publish carries a location so it can be shown to other drivers; that is described in section 2.

New in 9.0 We do collect a small amount of anonymous usage information so we can see which features people actually use:

• A random installation identifier — a random code generated on your device when you install the app. It is not your Apple ID, not your device's advertising identifier, and it is not connected to your identity or to anything you post in the app.
• Which feature was used — for example that the layer picker was opened, that a locked layer was tapped, or that a subscription prompt was shown or dismissed, along with which map layer it related to.
• How long a session lasted — the total time the app was open and in front of you, from when you brought it to the foreground until you left it (a brief glance away, such as checking a notification, is treated as part of the same session rather than starting a new one).
• Which parts of the app were opened during a session — for example the map, the layer picker, or an incident's details. This is recorded only as an unordered set of what was opened. It does not record the order you opened them in, how long you spent on each one, or which specific incident, camera, or post you looked at.
• How long each map layer was displayed — for example how many seconds the traffic cameras layer or the weather layer was visible on screen during a session.
• The app version, and the time the event happened.

That is the complete list for usage information. None of it includes your location, the incidents you look at, or anything you write. We do not record the order in which you move through the app, and we do not record the specific content you view — only that a given part of the app was opened and, for map layers, for how long.

We cannot identify you. ChpMap has no sign-up and no login. We never ask for or receive your name, email address, or phone number, and we do not use Apple’s advertising identifier. The random codes described in this policy are generated on your device, are not connected to each other, and are not connected to any account you hold anywhere else — so there is no step we could take, and no request anyone could make, that would let us work out who a particular user is. None of this information is used to track you, in this app or across any other app or website.

2. The Community feature

Community is optional. If you never post, nothing in this section applies to you. When you do post, the following is sent to our server so other drivers can see the report:

• What you wrote or said — the text of your report, or, for a voice report, the text we transcribed from it. We never upload audio; the transcription happens on your device and only the resulting text is sent.
• Where the report is — a map location, so the report can be shown in the right place. Both ways of posting start by dropping a pin at your current location, and in both you can drag that pin to where the report actually belongs before anything is sent. A tapped report waits for you to confirm. New in 9.0 A voice report sends on its own after a short countdown — dragging the pin restarts that countdown, and you can cancel outright. (Before 9.0 a voice report was sent at your current location with no pin to adjust.) If you do nothing, a voice report is sent at your current location. The pin is your opportunity to change that; it is not a blur applied on your behalf. The coordinate we store is precise — roughly a five-metre square — because a report about a particular lane, exit, or shoulder is not useful if it is approximate.
• A random account code — created automatically so replies and votes work, and so a report can be withdrawn or moderated. It is generated on your device, is separate from the analytics code described above, and is never joined to it. It carries no name, email, or phone number, and there is nothing in it or attached to it that identifies you as a person.

Browsing the community layer sends the part of the map you are looking at, so we can return the reports near it. That is the map view, not a reading of where you are.

If you choose to follow a stretch of road for notifications, your device’s push token is stored, alongside your random account code, so we can send you that notification. Stop following and the record is removed.

Community posts are public to other users of the app. Do not post anything you would not want others to see.

3. How We Use Information

New in 9.0 Usage information is used only to understand which parts of the app are useful and where people run into trouble — for example, how many people open the layer picker but never subscribe, or how long a paid map layer is actually displayed once someone subscribes to it. We do not use it to build a profile of you, and we do not use it for advertising.

4. How Information Is Shared

We do not sell, rent, or share usage information with anyone. There are no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in ChpMap. The information goes only to our own server and is not combined with data from other companies. ChpMap does not track you across other apps or websites.

5. Data Retention & Deletion New in 9.0

Two different things are kept for two different lengths of time:

• Individual feature-use events (the layer picker was opened, a subscription prompt was shown, and so on) are automatically deleted after 90 days. After that we keep only anonymous daily totals — for example, "the layer picker was opened 40 times today" — which cannot be traced back to a device.
• Session summaries (how long a session lasted, which parts of the app were opened, how long each map layer was displayed) are kept for 365 days, and they are kept as individual records that still include the random installation identifier — they are not reduced to daily totals. That is what lets us tell whether people come back to the app at all, which a daily total cannot show. After 365 days they are deleted outright.

Because the installation identifier is random and not linked to you, we generally cannot locate "your" data on request. You can stop all collection at any time (see below), and reinstalling the app generates a new, unrelated identifier.

6. Your Choices New in 9.0

You can turn usage collection off completely by turning off Share Anonymous Usage Data in the app’s Settings. When it is off, nothing further leaves your device, and anything recorded but not yet sent is discarded rather than uploaded. Everything in ChpMap keeps working exactly as before.

7. Security

All data sent between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Usage information is stored on servers we operate and is not readable by other users of the app.

8. Children

The app is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

9. Your Rights

Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information. Contact us, or use the in-app controls where available, to exercise these rights.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time and will revise the "Last updated" date above.
